The History of the Thirty Years' War
1792
Schiller's 1792 history of the war that devastated Germany from 1618 to 1648: the Defenestration of Prague, Gustavus Adolphus' descent from the north, Wallenstein's armies and his murder, and the exhaustion that ended at Westphalia. Schiller wrote it while professor of history at Jena, a few years before his Wallenstein plays.
