Dickens's first historical novel, built around the anti-Catholic Gordon Riots that burned through London in 1780. A twenty-year-old murder at the Warren works its way to the surface as the mob gathers, and the simple-minded Barnaby and his raven Grip are swept into a rising neither of them understands.
