Frederick Marryat's 1841 island story: the Seagrave family wrecked in the Pacific with the old seaman Masterman Ready, whose seamanship and patience keep them alive. Marryat, a Royal Navy captain, wrote it in part to correct the nautical impossibilities he found in The Swiss Family Robinson.
