The second volume of Grant's memoirs, opening at Chattanooga and running through the Wilderness, Petersburg and Appomattox to the end of the war. He wrote it against the clock while dying of throat cancer, finishing days before his death in 1885, and Mark Twain published it for the benefit of his family.
