Dickens's first book, collecting the sketches he published in periodicals between 1833 and 1836 under the pen name Boz. Arranged as Our Parish, Scenes, Characters and Tales, they are the London notebook everything else came out of: pawnbrokers, gin shops, election days and the crowd at Newgate.
