The Red Fairy Book

Andrew Lang's 1890 fairy book, the second of the colour series: thirty-seven tales gathered from Norse, French, Russian and German sources, among them Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Snowdrop, The Twelve Dancing Princesses and the Pied Piper story told here as The Ratcatcher. It closes with Lang's own condensation of the Volsunga Saga as The Story of Sigurd. His preface names the translators who supplied each group of tales.
