The Seven Poor Travellers

A Christmas number of 1854, in which the narrator finds a charity in Rochester that lodges six poor travellers for a night and appoints himself the seventh. The middle chapter is the story he tells them, following Richard Doubledick from disgrace as a private soldier to Waterloo and a reckoning with the man who ruined him.
