Robert Service wrote these verses as a bank clerk in Whitehorse, and the 1907 collection made him the most widely read poet of the Klondike. It carries The Shooting of Dan McGrew and The Cremation of Sam McGee, both built to be recited, alongside quieter poems about the country that produced them.
