The 1871 sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, in which Alice climbs through the mirror over the mantelpiece into a country laid out as a chess problem. She advances square by square past Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty and the White Knight, playing as a pawn until she is crowned.
